Telecom Expense Provider vs. Stratix TEM
Case Study
Many companies utilize telecom expense management (TEM) software to gain visibility and control over their complex and often fragmented communications environments. With multiple carriers, contracts, mobile devices, and service plans spread across departments or locations, managing telecom costs manually is time-consuming and error-prone. However, software often isn’t enough. Here’s an example:
Major Railroad
A large railroad that relies on a complex environment of mobile device and Internet of Things (IoT) sensors throughout its extensive rail network had a TEM provider along with additional internal resources working on claiming and departmental reconciliation. However, because the provider only relied on software, it missed under and unused lines.
Stratix also uses complex software, but we have a dedicated human analyst team that combs through the data to find additional cost savings. For the railroad, we reduced by about 2,500 the number of voice and data lines they were paying for by suspending and then canceling unused lines. We also evaluated plans to find redundancies and opportunities for savings. When Stratix started, the company was paying an average of $62 per line, and we reduced that to $56. Overall, we saved the company a little over $ 1 million in the first year.
Not all customers will see that kind of savings, but we typically save an average customer 4 percent on their telecom expenses—in many cases, much more.
We calculate the price of TEM services based on a per-device cost per month, which is based on a calculation of the number of devices and number of supported carriers. We use that to get to a straight cost we will charge per month.
